Charles A. Hartman Fine Art is excited to present Thieves and Charlatans, the newest body of work by Portland-based artist Blakely Dadson. Interested in the value society places on originality, Dadson's new paintings draw upon childhood images and experiences to create palimpsests of memory, both real and imagined. His work embraces appropriation, creating pieces that are stunningly rendered, vivid statements of the value of imagination and play. In the borrowing of disparate elements and characters, Dadson follows the time honored tradition of taking, adding one's own life, experience and talent and remaking. His first show at Hartman Fine Art is not to be missed.
Blakely Dadson lives and works in Portland, Oregon where he is an art director for The Great Society. His work has been exhibited widely across the United States and has been featured in numerous publications. His previous exhibitions in Portland have been reviewed in The Oregonian and Willamette Week. Dadson received his MFA from Texas Christian University in 2005 and his BFA from the California College of the Arts in 2002. This is his first solo exhibition at Charles A. Hartman Fine Art.
