Rachel Davis: This Fleeting World

July 31 - August 31, 2013

Charles A. Hartman Fine Art is excited to present This Fleeting World, the newest body of work by Portland-based artist Rachel Davis. In precisely executed watercolor paintings and ink drawings, Davis continues her exploration of a rapidly evolving China through the unique prism of a parent of two adopted Chinese daughters. Her work depicts a landscape that is constantly changing, with centuries of history being wiped away in the wake of mammoth building projects. As China pursues a course that is seemingly unprecedented in its scope and effect, Davis' work reflects upon its impact on the global economy and environment. Davis' work considers the connection of one family to a larger world in which time seems to be speeding up and reflection has given way to constant engagement. The result is a series of complex and beautiful works created using a thoughtfully constructed visual language.

Rachel Davis was born in 1970 in Cambridge, England and went on to earn a BFA from the University of Michigan School of Art. Her work has been exhibited across the United States, and is included in many noted private and corporate collections.
