Daniel Robinson: Northwest Paintings
September 5 - September 29, 2007Exhibition Information | Biography
Charles A. Hartman Fine Art is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of the paintings of Oregon artist, Daniel Robinson. In Robinson’s paintings industry and landscape coexist in idealistic balance. Rich color and an understanding of light combine to create exceptionally intriguing work that is as thoughtful as it is beautiful. Robinson works in a figurative style reminiscent of the social realists of the 1930s and 40s. He counts Edward Hopper, Grant Wood and Thomas Benton, as well as the study of European masters, as influences. In the introduction to Robinson’s 2004 monograph, In Oregon, Brian Berger writes of Robinson’s work:
“It is the structural power of the subject matter that resonates with Robinson, be it regional industry or a broad expanse of mountainous landscape, with a strong play of shadow and light delineating the natural tectonics, each painting rendered with virtuoso brush technique and an acute understanding or color relationships -- paintings one is almost inclined to touch, emanating as they do, a solid, tactile quality.”
Though he has had a number of very successful shows on the East Coast, this show represents Mr. Robinson’s first one person exhibition in Portland, a city he has lived in or around for more than twenty years.
