We have recently acquired a rare portfolio of photographs by Ruth Bernhard entitled The Eternal Body: a portfolio of ten photographs dedicated to the memory of Edward Weston. This portfolio was produced in 1976 and was limited to just fifteen copies. Bernhard started working with printers shortly after this portfolio was made, so these prints are amongst some of the last prints she made herself. The portfolio contains ten of Bernhard's most famous nudes. The prints are approximately 8 x 10 inches on 11 x 14 inch mounts. Each is signed and numbered in pencil on mount recto and titled on mount verso. The prints are very beautiful and certainly have some patina (being almost 30 years old) compared to the prints made more recently. The prints are laid into a custom made portfolio box that Bernhard designed, with a colophon signed and dated by the artist laid in as well.
